About Kumki

Kumki is a 2012 Indian Tamil-language musical drama film written and directed by Prabhu Solomon. Marking the debut of Vikram Prabhu, the film is a soul-stirring tale set against the backdrop of the lush, dangerous forests of the Western Ghats. It tells the poignant story of a mahout and his elephant, Manickam, who are hired to protect a remote village from a rogue wild elephant named Komban.

Plot Summary

Bomman (Vikram Prabhu) is a mahout who treats his elephant, Manickam, as his own child. To help a village in distress, he brings Manickam—trained only for temple festivals—to act as a ‘Kumki’ (a trained elephant used to guide or tame wild ones). However, things take a romantic and dangerous turn when Bomman falls in love with Alli (Lakshmi Menon), the village headman’s daughter, leading to a climax that explores the raw bond between man and nature.
